Speaker:
Jason Twill
Champion, Nightingale Housing

Key topics of the conference include:

  • Developing social & affordable housing policy
  • Understanding the current housing landscape
  • Attracting & optimising financial investment
  • Achieving sustainability without government funding
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Navigating the private market place

Architecture Media: Our Houses - Andrew Maynard

Presenter
Andrew Maynard, Austin Maynard Architects

As part of Architecture Media's Our Houses series, Andrew Maynard will be speaking in Perth about his design Mills House. Sustainability is at its core, maximising natural light and air. The openings and windows have been designed to optimise passive solar gain, drastically reducing demands on mechanical heating and cooling; windows are double glazed; white roofs drastically reduce urban heat sink and heat transfer internally; a need for air-conditioning is eliminated through active management of shade, and passive ventilation; a large water tank has been buried central within the lightwell; all roof water is captured and reused to flush toilets and water the garden. high performance insulation is everywhere, even in the walls of the original house; where possible, AMA has sourced local trades, materials and fittings; and solar panels with micro-inverters cover the new roof.

Presenters:
Urban Coup

Dates and time:
Saturday 18 March 2017, 11:00am-12:30pm (FULL)
Sunday 19 March 2017, 11:00am-12:30pm

In a Nightingale project with a twist, Urban Coup will be working with Breathe Architecture and Architecture Architecture to create a cohousing development that pioneers a financial model where the people who will live there are investing into the project from day one. As well as all the environmental features you'd expect from a Nightingale project, it will also have serious cohousing cred, with spaces such as a big shared dining room and kitchen, a library and a community garden, to help support our strong and vibrant community.

It’s early days, but the project has momentum and is currently searching for a site within the Darebin, Maribynong, Moonee Valley and Moreland municipalities. If you are keen to meet and find out more about Urban Coup and you're interested in living in a co-housing environment, Urban Coup would like to invite you to an information session on 18 March 2017. Reserve your spot by registering here (Sunday event only).
